The Isle of Hope

It seems like a never ending corridor,

The path is blurred and view is obscure.

I‘m lost in this surreal terrain,

Forever drenched in this bloody rain.

Engulfed by this war and strife,

Still in the quest for something good in life,

I try to look in the mirror amidst this impasse,

But all I see is broken shards of glass.

Will this endless night ever wake up to a new sunrise?

Will there ever be a shine in these dull eyes?

Is the future even worth looking living for?

Is there to this pandemonium any lasting cure?

Riddled with questions is my mind,

About our existence and doubts of all kind,

The answers to which remain hidden throughout,

Whether you scream or cry or shriek or shout.

Will this furore someday stop?

Will someday my tears reduce to just a drop?

Someday, perhaps, I’ll carry a smile,

Till then I’m just, in this sea of chaos, of hope, an isle.

The Jaguar Warrior

Behold! The Jaguar Warrior comes
from the bloody battle with the Phantoms.
His amazing tale is so long
that it can be made into a song.

In the jungles of the Aztecs
he grew up like a kite
independent in the country of Mex.
At fifteen, he had to learn to fight.

He started with a short sword,
with great prowess, he crushed the practice board.
Next he toyed with the shield,
and now possessed all the power it could wield.

But then, the Phantoms attacked,
the town of Guadalajara they sacked.
His training was not complete,
but still, he was made a part of the fleet.

To the Phantoms' base his army raced.
This challenge was far bigger than they had ever faced.
Of their arrival, the Phantoms beforehand knew.
And they had plans to leave not even a few.

The brutal battle started
and raged on for weeks.
The besieged battlefield was filled
with horrid moans and shrieks.

Now only a few were left,
fighting with all their might.
Overcome with emotion, the Jaguar Warrior leapt,
he killed all Phantoms at first sight.

The battle had finally ended.
The threat of the Phantoms had gone.
All the wounds were gradually mended,
and the Aztecs peacefully lived on and on.

PS - Originally written when I was in class IX, as a part of the holiday homework, so that would be around august 2004. I finally found this in the morning lying on my bedroom floor. How it got there, well, I may never get to know that.

V for Vendetta

Dark days have beset upon us
gone are the times of Abel, the present era is of Cain
to think that people would go so far as to
loot and kill just for their gain
scores are duped of their money and sweat
all their effort and toil gone in vain
still no one bats even an eyelid
And they call me insane

They prowl and plunder the entire world
spread only destruction and pain
they say they are Prometheus reborn
but truth is they are Hades, only evil whose hearts contain
the world is just a chessboard to them
merely a child's game
they manipulate us at every step
still they call me insane

Their shirts gleam white
yet covered in a blood red stain
it would fill an entire graveyard
if we count all the bodies they've slain
we need to put an end to their reign
until then we hang our heads in shame
because if we cant punch them straight in the face
then its true we are insane

Its time to quench this reign of terror
bring an end to this life of concordant disdain
to rip off their bloodthirsty roots forever
that should be our only aim
we'll forge a world where we live in peace
a place where we can enjoy the sweet summer rain
V stands for vendetta, they need to understand
then they'll really know who is insane

Behind the Prayer

The earth is in plight
the end of the world already in sight
in such dark times we look for help to His might
but what is the meaning behind the prayer ?
is God really there ?

millions die everyday
stabbed in the gut or thrown into the bay
many are killed before they can even speak or say
then what is the meaning behind this prayer ?
is God really there ?

killed in cold blood
or drowned in the monsoon flood
some were plucked when they were just a bud
then what is the meaning behind this prayer ?
is God really there ?

thousands have nothing to eat or wear
the burden of their impoverished families they have to bear
but still, are we ready to give and share ?
then what is the meaning behind this prayer ?
is God really there ?

few also satisfy their greed during this sorry time
but only thugs and cheats and crooks and slime
robbing the people, that is their crime
then what is the meaning of this prayer ?
is God really there ?

why is our land in grief and gloom ?
are we forever doomed or will our flower one day bloom ?
or will our joy be buried in a tomb ?
what is the true meaning behind a prayer ?
is God really there ?

however, all is not lost, if we try, we can still win this fight
for the world, we can be the guiding light
for we are the tomorrow after this fateful night
let's bring meaning to our prayer
the we'll see that God is here

Solitary Lark

The sky was dark and the world all gray
no glimmer of hope in the fray
i sat there waiting in the dark
among the crows the only lark

all alone in this barren land
filled with rocks and stones and sand
I sat there without flame or spark
among the crows the only lark

no friends nor any foes
to give hugs or for trading blows
I sat in the corner, from the others so stark
among the crows the only lark

in my solitude so thick and dense
ten years have already passed forth thence
forever wanting to make my mark
among the crows the only lark

the passionate hunger and desire
still burns in me like red hot fire
this song i wrote on birch wood bark
among the crows the only lark

life had been a cruel war throughout
nobody to help even if i scream or shout
now it seems like a walk in the park
among the crows the only lark

Second Life

Once upon a time I had a dream
always bursting at the seams
but all I've got today
is a pain that takes me further astray

when I first my story told
it was summer, but somehow, I was cold
every word on the parchment that lay
brought back memories that took my breath away

like my father used to say
"you can't every time have your way"
but the more, in my failure, i got caught
the more my heart would grow distraught

until a time I could take no more
thinking life was no more real than a lore
I decided to give up, it all
and from my shoulders, I felt the burden fall

I, now, have a second life
without all the grief and strife
once upon a time I had a dream
and now it's time for it to gleam
